Se aproximaba el fin del milenio con sus paranoias por el "efecto 2000" que podía desbaratar todos los ordenadores, y además se producía un boom en las nuevas tecnologías como internet / ordenadores / móviles que empezaba a invadir la vida de las personas. Esto causaba en algunos una profunda sensación de decepción, sentimiento que en inglés se describe con el color "blue". Desde esta perspectiva, la canción trata sobre alguien que se siente deprimido y que lo ve todo de dicho color, es decir, que todo lo que ve a su alrededor es un reflejo de como él se siente.
