- Notas: Esta canción tiene dos versiones, la de 1970 de los Village People, que hablaba sobre San Francisco como nuevo paraíso gay y por tanto en la canción se instaba a acudir a ese paraíso, y la versión de Pet Shop Boys de 1993, que se interpreta desde la caída del bloque soviético y se presenta el oeste como el paraíso para la gente procedente del mundo comunista, idea que se refuerza con el videoclip.

- 1. “…strive…” = “To strive” es un verbo que se usa para indicar el hacer un esfuerzo poniendo todo el empeño para obtener un resultado, por eso se usa para hablar de intentar por todos los medios alcanzar la perfección (“to strive after perfection”) o luchar por salvar al matrimonio (“to strive to save the marriage”).

- 2. “…shade…” = Hay dos tipos de sombra, la “shadow” que es la sombra que alguien o algo proyecta, y la “shade” que es la sombra a la que uno se cobija para que la luz solar no le quite el color blanco champiñón.
- 3. “…hustling … rustling…” = Se trata de dos formas de robo, el “hustling” es hacerlo con chanchullos o engaños, y el “rustling” es el robo de ganado. ¿Qué pinta aquí? Ni idea, el que sepa la respuesta que por favor la incluya como comentario al final del artículo.
