- Notas: Si no me equivoco, esta es una de las primeras canciones de Madonna que causasen mucha polémica por su contenido, especialmente por el del videoclip. El tema central de la canción es la fe de una mujer llevada a sus extremos. El problema con la letra es que en algunos casos tiene una doble interpretación (como lo de "I'm down on my knees, I wanna take you there" que para algunos tiene connotaciones sexuales), y en el caso del video, el elemento del escándalo es la relación física con el santo al que está adorando.
Madonna compuso la canción en unas circunstancias muy concretas, tras el fracaso de las dos películas en las que había participado, y tras su divorcio de Sean Penn, lo que le hacía atravesar una crisis personal y un sentimiento de culpa que considera resultado de su educación católica.
- 1. “…stand…” = Si bien "to stand" es el verbo "estar de pie", en este caso hace referencia al mantenerse firme o aguantar la situación que a uno le toca vivir. En este caso la cantante lo usa para indicar el resistir o aguantar los embates de la vida por uno mismo, sin esperar que sean otros quienes nos libren del sufrimiento.
- 2. “…sighing …” = "To sight" es un verbo usado para indicar el suspirar, y quien lo hace en este caso es un ángel, que suspira justo antes de empezar a hablarle.
