- Notas: Sí, cuando cantan lo de “call me when try to wake up” no hay dios que les entienda, pero tranquilo, que le pasa también a los nativos, y por eso en el año 2010 ocupó una de las primeras posiciones en la lista de “canciones con letra más difíciles de entender” de ese año.

Sobre el tema de la canción hay varias versiones, según una de ellas trata sobre hacer llamadas de teléfono con insistencia o evitar responder al teléfono por mucho que no deje de sonar. En este sentido la canción trataría sobre alguien intentando contactar por teléfono sin éxito con alguien.

Según otras fuentes, el cantante tomaba metanfetamina y la canción trata sobre su intento de contactar con el camello (antes de que hubiera telefono movil) y los efectos de dejar tomar dicha droga.

- 1. “…pay phone …” = Los “pay phone” o “payphone” son los telefonos de pago que se ponían en las cabinas o en los bares y en los que pagabas por llamada hecha.

- 2. “…sidewinder …” = El “sidewinder” es un tipo de teléfono antiguo de cabina de telefono con una palanquita a un lado para darle cuerda o hacer que se ponga en marcha tras descolgar el telefonillo, aunque se usa también para hablar de un tipo de serpiente de cascabel.

- 3. “…sleeps in a coil …” = La serpientes duermen enroscadas, como el cable de los telefonos antiguos que está enroscado como durmiendo en espera de que un usuario usara el teléfono.

- 4. “…black-eyed peas…” = Aparte de ser el nombre de un grupo musical, es el término inglés para hablar de los frijoles.

- 5. “…Doctor Seuss…” = Es el nombre de un caricaturista que hacía libros para niños, siendo el personaje más famoso un gato con sombrero de copa a rayas rojas y blancas.
- 6. “…moogie…” = El cantante de REM tiene la costumbre de equivocarse al pronunciar algo y dejarlo en la canción final en lugar de corregirlo. Aquí lo de de “moogie” es un error porque debería decir “boogie”, que es un verbo que significa algo así como “mover el esqueleto”.
