- Notas: Para
entender esta canción de 1983 hay que conocer la canción "Space Oddity" que David Bowie
compuso en 1969 como homenaje a la película "2001: A Space Oddisey" que salió en 1968. La película nos
habla de una misión espacial que acaba con un astronauta superviviente que desaparece
por decisión propia. La canción de David Bowie se inspira en dicho astronauta
para crear al personaje del comandante Tom, el cual decide cortar la conexión
con la Tierra para vagar por el espacio. En esta canción se recurre al mismo
personaje con el mismo nombre en una historia calco de la anterior. El
comandante Tom despega listo para cumplir con una misión, y en el momento de
regresar a casa simula un problema de funcionamiento, se despide de su mujer y
corta la radio, haciendo que crean que ha muerto cuando en realidad conecta los
motores para internarse en el espacio al que considera ahora su verdadero
hogar.
- 1. “…drifting…” = "To
drift" se usa para indicar el ir a la deriva, movido por las corrientes
contra las que no se puede luchar y sin tener ningún tipo de control sobre el
movimiento.
- 2. “…mourning…” = Usado
en contextos de fallecimientos, "to mourn" es la acción de llorar por
la perdida o muerte de alguien, y como sustantivo "mourning" es el
tiempo de luto o duelo que sigue a un fallecimiento.
