- Notas: El tema de la canción está perfectamente narrado en el videoclip oficial. La idea de la canción surgió de una visita a una tienda de electrodomésticos, en la que el cantante escuchó una conversación entre dos trabajadores quejándose del dinero fácil que las estrellas del rock ganaban sin pegar un palo al agua (de ahí el título de "money for nothing"). Uno de esos trabajadores (claramente homófobo por usar el término "faggot") insiste en que ellos, cargando electrodomésticos de un lado para el otro, son los que realmente se merecen el dinero que se ganan. De ahí pasa a lamentarse ridiculizando a los cantantes de éxito y acaba indicando que se ha confundido de profesión y que de joven tendría que haberse hecho músico para ser él quien disfrutase de ese dinero y ese éxito con las mujeres ("chicks").
- 1. “…yo-yo's…” = En inglés americano coloquial, un "yo-yo" es un "memo". En este caso se aplica despectivamente a los cantantes que salen en la tele.
- 2. “…chicks…” = Si uno quiere demostrar ser un auténtico choni poligonero, lo mejor es usar "chick" para referirse a una mujer joven.
- 3. “…blister…” = Los "blisters" son las ampollas, que se relacionan con andar mucho por el monte, si salen en los pies, o de trabajar muy duro, si salen en las manos. En la canción el cantante intenta ridiculizar el poco esfuerzo que implica ser un cantante de éxito diciendo que como máximo les van a salir ampollas en la punta de los dedos de tocar la guitarra.
- 4. “…faggot…” = Uno de los términos más insultantes para referirse a un hombre homosexual. Cuando alguien lo usa no hay duda de que pretende ofender.
- 5. “…shoulda…” = Es una licencia literaria, es la contracción de "should have", que se escribe "should've".
