though he was a brute they just fell into his arms.
Then one night some men of higher standing
set a trap, they're not to blame.
"Come to visit us" they kept demanding
and he really came.

- Notas: El tema de la canción es claro: la vida de Rasputín el monje ruso famoso por su cercanía a la familia del zar de Rusia por su capacidad casi mágica para curar a su hijo Alexei. Según cuentan las leyendas (en las que se basa esta canción) fue amante de la zarina (cosa que no esta clara), y su capacidad de influir en las decisiones del zar creció tanto que acabó en el punto de mira de otros personajes con poder que conspiraron para matarlo, primero envenenándolo (sin resultado según las leyendas), y finalmente de un tiro antes de tirarlo al río.
- 1. “…chicks …” = Es una forma muy coloquial de referirse a las mujeres jóvenes.
- 2. “…carried on …” = De entre los significados de este phrasal verb, el más adecuado para interpretar esta parte de la canción es el de "relación sexual oculta", es decir, los líos de faldas en los que andaba metido el monje ruso.
- 3. “…wunderbar …” = Esto no es inglés, es alemán, y significa "maravilloso". En la canción se toman la licencia de usar un neologismo alemán que en ocasiones se ve en el inglés, hasta el punto de estar recogido en muchos diccionarios.
- 4. “…wheeler dealer…” = Otra expresión informal, en contextos comerciales se usa para hablar de la persona buena en hacer trapicheos y chanchullos de todo tipo, a nivel de política se usa para referirse a personas que consiguen manipular la situación para que las cosas salgan como el quiere. Según la canción, para la zarina Rasputin no era uno de esos.
- 5. “…holy healer…” = Un "holy healer" sería una especie de curandero que usa ritos religiosos (como plegarias, etc.) para conseguir que sus pacientes sanen.
- 6. “…lusting…” = Podríamos traducirlo por "entregarse a la lujuria" o a todo tipo de actividades sexuales que podríamos considerar ilícitas o inmorales.
