- Notas: El autor indicó que la mujer a la que la canción iba dirigida no era una mujer en concreto, sino varias con las que tuvo algún tipo de relación. En esta ocasión, el cantante asume el puesto de un hombre que está enamorado de una mujer pero que en su relación quiere mantener una serie de limitaciones que parecen ser incompatibles con los deseos de la otra persona, como puede ser el no querer casarse ("I ain't ready for the altar"), lo que, según él, no quita que su amor sea verdadero y busque que ella se pliegue a sus deseos y alcancen algún punto intermedio ("Will you meet me in the middle?") que satisfaga a ambos.
- 1. “…ain't…” = La canción se toma muchas licencias orales como esta, que es una contracción de "am not", y que es muy usual.
- 2. “…poor correspondent…” = En inglés el giro "to be poor / good correspondent" se usa para indicar el ser bueno / malo escribiendo cartas. En la canción el cantante parece excusarse así por no haberle escrito jamás ya que, según él, "se le da mal el expresar sus sentimientos por escrito".
