- Notas: El YMCA fue una asociación creada por George Williams en 1844 que se dedicó a dar alojamiento, educación y actividades varias para personal marginal y obrero que de otro modo tendría que malvivir en las calles. Con el tiempo pasó a estructurarse en residencias con gimnasio o instalaciones deportivas y de ocio en la que el personal pudiera pasar tu tiempo en lugar de estar en las calles dedicándose a actividades de tipo delictivo.
En 1978 el grupo Village People compuso está canción dedicada a dicha asociación, y a las actividades que llevaba a cabo en favor de la juventud. Esta canción les supuso enfrentarse a una indemnización por daños a la imagen del YMCA.
- 1. “…dough…” = Si bien el "dough" es la masa con la que se hace algo como el pan, un bizcocho o los donuts, en slang coloquial callejero se usa para referirse a la "pasta" en sentido de "dinero".
- 2. “…hang out…” = Cuando uno queda con los amigos para pasar el rato lo que haces es "to hang out" con ellos. Es un modo muy genérico de hablar de compartir el tiempo con las amistades, y se usa cuando no queremos mencionar los planes concretos, quizás porque simplemente se trata de pasar tiempo con ellos sin estar haciendo nada en concreto.
- 3. “…the blues…” = "Blue" es el color usado para hablar de la depresión, por ellos la depresión postvacacional es "the post-holiday blues" y la depresión del lunes es el "Monday blues". Este "blue" no es una depresión que te haga ir al psicólogo o psiquiatra, sino el sentirse muy bajo de humor, siendo algo pasajero que se pasa sin tener que hacer nada.
- 4. “…jive…” = Este es otro término muy coloquial que se usa para indicar el que algo es una tontería como un piano o que carece por completo de sentido. Es lo que el cantante siente que era el mundo cuando él se encontraba solo y abandonado.
