- Notas: Curiosamente, esta canción fue compuesta inicialmente por Bruce Springsteen, que considero que no era un tema adecuado para el disco que estaba a punto de sacar (Darkness in the edge of town), y por eso se lo paso a Patti Smith para ver si le podía ser de utilidad.
Esta cantante reescribió la canción y compuso la letra una noche mientras esperaba la llamada de teléfono de su novio (de ahí lo de "love is a ring, the telephone"), y este se retraso hasta altas horas de la noche, cosa que le sirvió de fuente de inspiración. Así, la canción pasó a tener como tema central esa ansia por estar con la persona a la que se ama.
- 1. “…undercover…” = Esto se usa principalmente para hablar de las operaciones policiales cuando un agente trabaja "undercover" y se mete en la banda criminal para obtener pruebas que permitan detenerles. Sería algo así como "en secreto".
- 2. “…lust…” = Uno de los siete pecados capitales, el "lust" es la lujuría, o esa pasión sexual desatada que nos lleva a hacer cosas que pueden ser consideradas inmorales.
- 3. “…disguised…” = Los "disguises" son los disfraces que se usan para aparentar ser otra persona, especialmente en fiestas de disfraces tipo Carnaval. Como verbo se usa para hablar de la acción de disfrazarse, o en este caso, de hacerse pasar por una cosa siendo otra totalmente distinta.
