- Notas: La línea "the impossible is possible tonight" es el elemento que nos da la clave para interpretar la canción, puesto que es una especie de oda al optimismo de que es posible hacer que se cumplan los sueños, y eso se asocia a un momento concreto, a "esta misma noche", tal y como sucede con los sueños de la gente joven que son los amantes de la noche por excelencia.
Según el autor, la canción va dirigida a si mismo, y a como logro escapar de su hogar en Michigan (de ahí lo de "in your city by the lake, the place where you were born"). Según parece escapo de una infancia llena de malos tratos, y contra todo pronóstico, consiguió abrirse camino en el mundo de la música.
El videoclip de la canción es un homenaje que el cantante hace al director de cine Georges Melies (nombre que aparece en el barco de la última escena), por su película de 1902 "Trip to the Moon".
- 1. “…stuck…” = Es el participio pasado del verbo "to stick", que se usa para hablar de "pegar" o de "quedarse bloqueado" cuando dos cosas se quedan enganchadas de tal modo que no se pueden separar con facilidad. En este caso lo que se ha quedado pegado o enganchado es uno a un destino trágico del que el cantante afirma que es posible despegarse.
- 2. “…fade…” = Verbo en sentido estricto para indicar el que un fuego se vaya apagando o una luz vaya perdiendo intensidad, como sucede con las brasas ("embers") de un fuego que va consumiéndose poco a poco hasta agotar el combustible y apagarse.
- 3. “…to offer up…” = El phrasal "to offer up" se suele usar principalmente en el mundo religiosos para hablar de las ofrendas o sacrificios que se hacen a una divinidad. En este caso el cantante habla de hacer ofrenda de la noche a un ente abstracto a cambio de ver cumplidos los sueños.
