Notas:
Esta canción se compuso expresamente para la película “Working girl”, que
alguien decidió traducir al español como “Armas de mujer”, muy literal, sí
señor. La cantante indica que la compuso tras leerse el guion (“script”) un par
de veces y con la ayuda de su marido, un profesor de literatura que le ayudó
dando los detalles poéticos o bíblicos (como lo de la Nueva Jerusalen).
El
tema de la canción es la mezcla de nerviosismo e ilusión que se experimenta al
afrontar una nueva situación en la vida. Habla sobre la inseguridad que se
experimenta al enfrentarse a la incertidumbre.
El
“río” del que se habla es el fluir de la vida, en el que podemos ir
contracorriente hasta agotarnos y ahogarnos, o dejarnos llevar aunque nos lleve
a vivir experiencias que asusten.
- 1. “…the New Jerusalem …” = Jerusalén era la meta soñada por los judíos en los años
de destierro en el desierto tras escapar de Egipto. El Nuevo Jerusalén en la
canción es ese mundo de esperanza al iniciar una nueva vida en un nuevo lugar.
- 2. “…It's asking for the
taking…” = La expresión “for the taking” se usa para indicar que
algo está ahí y que basta con tener el valor de cogerlo o de ir a por ello. En
la canción los sueños de la protagonista están ahí pidiendo a gritos que se
atreva a ir a por ellos.
- 3. “…blaze…” = El verbo “to blaze” se usa para indicar que algo arde con
brillo, normalmente se usa en sentido metafórico para hablar de esperanza,
ilusión, etc., es decir, fuegos internos que arden con fuerza dentro de uno.
