- Notas: Esta canción es bastante sencilla, de hecho, es tan sencilla que algunos la consideran la peor canción de Bruce Springsteen, y probablemente resultado de ceder a las presiones de un mercado que buscaba canciones comerciales y pegadizas con la misma profundidad que el sistema de funcionamiento de un sonajero.
La protagonista de la canción es una mujer que se abre muy lentamente a la hora de tener relaciones personales. Es una persona que se muestra muy poco a poco, y que siempre guardará una parcela de sí misma (su "secret garden") que no va a revelar a nadie por temor a darlo todo y sentirse defraudada. En cierto modo es una mujer que busca a un hombre que sea capaz de poco a poco ir penetrando en lo más intimo de su mundo a costa de un gran esfuerzo.
- 1. “…vise…” = El "vise" es esa especie de torno que está sujeto a una mesa, con una pinza que aprieta a base de roscar un tornillo y que sirve para sujetar con fuerza algo para su manipulación. En el caso de la canción hace referencia al esfuerzo que hay que hacer para llegar a lo más intimo de la mujer protagonista de la canción.
